Privacy policy
Your files never leave your phone. Here is exactly what the licence needs, and nothing more.
Draft. This page is still being written and will change before Typestead launches. Parts marked “to be completed” aren’t final yet.
Who we are
Typestead is made by To be completed: Your name or business name, To be completed: Your city, country (“we”). Contact: typesteadsupport@gmail.com. This policy covers the Typestead apps and this website. Last updated 30 October 2026.
Your files stay on your device
Typestead is an offline editor. The files you open, their names and their contents are never sent to us or anyone else. The app has no storage permission: it can only reach the files and folders you choose.
Unsaved drafts are kept inside the app, encrypted with a key held in your phone's secure hardware, and deleted when you save, close or discard them. App data is excluded from device backups.
What the licence server keeps
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| A one-way scrambled code (HMAC) made from your Google account ID. Never your email address or name. | To know which licence is yours. |
| For each of your devices: a device key ID and the phone's model name. | To enforce the two-device limit and show your devices in Settings. |
| Your trial start date and new-device activation times. | To run the 7-day trial and stop repeat trials. |
| Your purchase status and Google Play purchase token (encrypted). | To confirm your purchase and notice refunds. |
Data is sent only over HTTPS. We use it to run the app and prevent fraud, and for nothing else. We don't sell it, share it for advertising, or use analytics or ad SDKs.
If you use the iPhone app
The iPhone app keeps the same kind of data: a scrambled code made from your Sign in with Apple ID, your App Store transaction ID (encrypted) and a scrambled code of your trial transaction, each device's App Attest public key and counter, and your Sign in with Apple refresh token (encrypted, used only to revoke the sign-in when you delete your account). No name or email is requested.
Services we rely on
- Google: Sign in with Google, Google Play Integrity (checks the app is genuine) and Google Play Billing (payments). Google's own privacy policy applies to what Google processes.
- Apple (iPhone app only): Sign in with Apple, App Attest and the App Store.
- Our licence server, which we run ourselves. To be completed: Name your hosting provider and the country the server is in
How long we keep it
We keep your licence data while your account exists. When you delete your account we remove it, except for: your trial start date and new-device activation times (kept 30 days) under the anonymous account code, and the first trial date for each device ID. These stop the same account or phone from starting endless new trials.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app (Settings, Delete account) or from our deletion page.
- Sign out one device, or everywhere, from Settings.
- Ask what we hold about you, or for a correction, by emailing typesteadsupport@gmail.com. You may also complain to your local privacy regulator.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies: even the fonts are served from here. If you use the contact form, what you type is stored with Cloudflare, our web host, so we can read it and reply. We keep it until we delete it, and we never share it or use it for anything else. Contact links open your own email app. Cloudflare may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security for a short time. To be completed: Confirm with your host
Children
Typestead is made for students and learners. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them beyond what the licence needs. To be completed: Check this against Google Play's Families policy and your country's rules before publishing
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, say so in the app.
